Should blog owners opt for DoubleClick to manage their advertisements?

Blog owners have to do a lot more than write posts. Many of us want to monetize our blogs – and why not? Google AdSense is a great way to earn from your blog. AdSense is easy to use and manage. But is it optimal? Are you losing a great opportunity to maximize your earning potential? Is DoubleClick for you? These are some questions I will be answering in flowing paragraphs.
What is DoubleClick exactly?
To be frank, I took a lot of time digging through websites and blogs to get some information. However, unfortunately, I didn’t find much about it. The only way was to dig into it myself. Let me tell you, DoubleClick is much more complicated than AdSense. In AdSense you have to copy a line of code and insert it in your posts and pages. It’s simple and it works. But in the process, you lose out on some extra revenue which you could have earned.
DoubleClick is essentially a hosted ad serving solution provided by our very own Google. They purchased the platform from DoubleClick and hence the name. There are two flavors – Free and Premium. Here I would touch upon the free edition since blog owners can very well manage within the resources provided through DFP small business.
DFP small Business
DFP stands for DoubleClick for publishers – that’s you, the blog owner. It’s free as long as ads served on your blog are within 90 million impressions a month. Wow, that’s lot of impressions, I am sure. You need an AdSense account to create DFP small business account. As I had mentioned earlier, installing and running DFP is a lot more complex than AdSense. Then why should you go for it?
- The greatest advantage is that you can maximize your earnings by serving AdSense ads when you have unsold inventory. This means that when no one is interested in your ad slots, AdSense provides cover ,as a kind of insurance.
- You can manage your ad inventory, manage ad traffic, provide reporting to your advertisers and has a toolkit to directly sell ads .
- Selling ads directly to advertisers through DoubleClick is a great feature. Earlier I found it difficult to manage reports for my advertisers. Of course I used Google analytics for reporting. But Analytics is not tailored for managing ads. With DFP small business, I can send reports directly to my advertisers. This one-to-one correspondence is very handy when it comes to disputes – which can take up plenty of time.
- There is no restriction on the other ad serving networks along with DFP. The best part is that popular ad networks don’t object because DFP belongs to the big daddy of internet. Who says there are no advantages to hiding behind Google?
Though DFP for small business may be a bit more complicated than AdSense, it’s worth it. The revenue potential increases with DFP because of the cover provided by AdSense for your unsold slots. Managing ads can be a big headache which can be alleviated with DFP for small business.
